David Whyte on finding our path
How do you know that you’re on your path?
Because it disappears, that’s how you know.
How do you know that you’re really doing something radical?
Because you don’t, you can’t see where you’re going.
That’s how you know.
But everything that you’ve leant on for your identity has gone.
And so you are going to enter the black contemplative splendors of self-doubt, at the same time as you’re setting out on this radical new path.
Solid gold. Every time.
I had to lead off with this.
It’s like he’s speaking straight into my soul.
Not Boring by Packy McCormick on The American Millennium
To the extent that it is an empire, America is an empire defined not by its ability to expand geographically to capture existing resources, but by its ability to expand technologically to create new ones.
America, therefore, is a boundless empire.
The American Empire isn’t over. It’s just beginning.
This will be the American Millennium as long as Americans believe that they can take matters into their own hands, build solutions to the challenges that we will inevitably face, and continuously rebuild a better America, and a better world.
Just in time for the 4th of July, Packy dropped a mega dose of optimism for our future.
God bless America.

Design Scientist’s color palette of the week

Kevin Van Trump about his journey from rural farm kid, to commodities trader, to creator of a farm newsletter and conference that’s making $20M/year
Despite the cringey name, My First Million is one of my favorite business podcasts. The hosts, Shaan and Sam explore interesting people, ideas, and stories in entrepreneur-land.
This episode rocked. It’s a conversation with somebody I had never heard of, and gives a lens into the world of farming - a world that I’ve been excited about recently.
I immediately bought a ticket to…wait for it…FarmCon (which Kevin runs) early next year to learn more and nurture my inner farmer.
Sam Altman’s startup playbook
My current focus is on momentum, clarity, and conciseness.
